East African Policy Dialogue on Legal and Regulatory Framework Requirements for the Development and Testing of Genetically Modified Mosquitoes for Malaria Control and Elimination in East Africa.

The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), through the Health Tech Platform, partnered with the East African Community (EAC)’s health department, the East African Health Research Commission (EAHRC), and the Ifakara Health Institute to convene a dialogue to discuss the status of legal and regulatory frameworks in the East African region as relates to the development, testing and deployment of genetically modified mosquitoes for malaria control and elimination.

 

The EA Policy Dialogue created awareness and provided an opportunity for the sub-region to chart its path in regulatory reforms relating to the development and testing of the technology.
